The Montgomeryshire Canal

The scenic Montgomeryshire canal starts at Newtown and ends at Welshpool. Many people park at Berriew and walk either to Welshpool or Newtown. Alongside the beautiful canal is a flat towpath and this allows you to either walk or cycle and take in the wildlife.

Lake Vyrnwy, Llanfyllin

Why not take a scenic walk or bike ride around Lake Vyrnwy and maybe end with a bite to eat or a coffee in the nearby hotel and cafe. The lakes length is 7.64 km and the full walk around the lake is 12 miles.


Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales and England. Its Welsh name, Yr Wyddfa, means tomb or monument. In the summer months you can even rest your feet and grab a welcome beverage in the café at the summit. And if you’re feeling tired after the strenuous climb up you can always get the train back down. There are 6 different routes to walk Snowdon, all too different difficulties.

Rodney's Pillar

Rodneys pillar is based near Welshpool and has Footpaths that lead up to the summit with wonderful views of Shropshire & Wales. Rodneys pillar has 2 different routes, one more challenging than the other. Starting point: SY21 7DD.


Powys Castle

Powis castle is known for its beautiful well-kept grounds. The castle was originally built in the 1200’s. Powis castle is very popular for its beautiful grounds and coffee bar. The Castle is also a national trust property.

Montgomery Castle

Montgomery Castle is a stone masonry castle looking over the County of Montgomery in Powys, Mid Wales. Many people park in Montgomery and walk to the castle. Be warned, it is very steep but is well worth the view. There are many great pubs in Montgomery to visit afterwards and have a well-deserved beer afterwards.

Glansevern Hall & Gardens

Glansevern hall gardens offer over 25 Acres to explore the stunning grounds and exotic planting. You can grab a bite to eat in the potting shed café or visit the chic shed shop. There is so much to explore in the gardens. Group entry tickets are also available.

Gregynog Hall, Tregynon

Gregynog Hall is a historic house and with its grade 1 gardens, it is the perfect place for a relaxed day out and a freshly cooked meal in the cafe. The beautiful grounds offer various levels of difficulty walks. A great place to go for a picnic are take the children to visit the different children play activities located in the woods.


Mid Wales Off-Roading

Based in the centre of Mid Wales, with various activities to choose from. Such as, off road karts, cargo-cats, or paintballing.

Commando Paintballing and Quad Trekking

Based on the Mid Wales/ Shropshire border, the activity hub offers off road buggies, quad biking, paintballing, laser clays and archery.


lLakeside Golf Course & Driving Range

Situated in the heart of Mid Wales between Welshpool and Newtown. The golf course offers 18 and 9 hole courses and also offers lessons for any difficulty. There is great restaurant and bar area for on- golfing guests, overlooking the golf course.

Aberdovey Golf Club

A challenging golf course with breath taking scenery on the edge of the sea. Aberdovey is a seaside down which will allow dogs on the beach in the winter; this golf course is also a links course.

Penycoed Riding Stables, Nr. Oswestry

The Family run pony trekking stables is based in Pant. A great day out for adults and children. Training for all difficulties and hat & boot hire at the stables.
